Madrid Wine and Tapas Old Town Tour |
|
A wine tour like no other - fine wines from some of the many wine regions of Spain and delicious local tapas all combined with a fascinating stroll through Madrid's historic streets. Along the way we stop in traditional wine taverns, some of whom date back to the 16th century and all of whom provide outstanding Iberian fayre and try the very best that Madrid can offer. At every stop you will enjoy excellent wines along with a selection of hot and cold tapas dishes, and an explanation about the origins of tapas and its cultural place in the Spanish diet. Between each stop you will learn something of the history and culture of Spain, Madrid and its sometimes dramatic effect on the history of Europe and the wider world, as well as finding some hidden jewels of the capital.....far far away from any tourist map. Your guides have all found that magical combination of a love of history, good food and fine wine that will enhance any visit to this most uneuropean of cities.
We organise a number of different tours around the old town,so if you have the time, you are guaranteed to become real expert!
No minimum size but the more the merrier ( and cheaper!) including all tapas and fine wines |
“ Our tour was as much enlightening as entertaining and the wine and tapas was just delicious"

Spanish Wine tasting |
|
Most people, when asked to name a Spanish wine will say one word – Rioja. In fact Rioja is just one of 69 Denomination regions of Spain, each with sub zones ( Rioja has three) that give the wine drinker a vast range of wines to enjoy but to the novice it can be a bewildering initial experience.
We offer a fun and enjoyable introduction to wine tasting in general and Spanish wine in particular – what to look for, what to taste and smell and most importantly how to enjoy wine. We introduce you to various Spanish wine regions, different grapes varieties and styles so that next time you buy or order a Spanish wine you will do so with a considerable amount of well earned confidence.
Tasting typically includes 6 wines with small eats |

Spanish Wine tasting and Tapas Pairing |
|
Until the reign of the Castillian King Alfonso X ( known as the Wise) it had been an established tradition that those involved in the haulage and transport trade were to be given free wine at every tavern en route - with predictable results on Iberian highways. Thankfully along comes Alfonso and he decrees that from now on they have to buy their wine but by way of recompense will receive a " tapa" literally a small dish that covers the glass and is no bigger than its circumference. Whilst it may not have improved the quality of Spanish driving it has certainly added to the gastronomic variety enjoyed in Spain. We invite you to a private cellar near one of the oldest monasteries in the old town to sample a variety of delicious hot and cold tapas dishes and all carefully paired with outstanding wines.
Seafood dishes washed down with delicate Andalucian Sherry, fish dishes with Galician whites, red meat dishes with Riojas. Cheeses with Priorat wines and delicious home made puddings with sweet Moscatel and complimentary Cava to finish. Our tip - dont book dinner!
Again no minimum but the more the merrier and cheaper and includes English speaking wine connoseur, all tapas and fine wines ( minimum group size 10)
